An Instructor at Al-Karkh University of Science Participated in a Symposium about the Arabic Language

The instructor at Al-Karh University of Science Asst. Lecturer Sohaib Kamal Mahmood participated in the scientific symposium entitled "Arabic Language: Great Heritage and Great Challenges" which was organized by the Iraqi House of Wisdom on the occasion of the International Day of Arabic Language.


The participation included a research on the influence of Arab and Islamic civilization in English literature and American literature in particular, with a simplified explanation of the concept of Orientalism.


The study mainly focused on the influence of the verses of the Holy Quran and the Arabic language on the literary works of Edgar Allan Poe, known as the father of the American detective story. The Quranic influence was mainly centered on the poem Al-Aaraaf. This long poetic work deals with the aspects of contemplation of the creation of the heavens, the description of the universe and its beauty, the worship of God, the sanctification of nature and the creation of God which all are inspired by concepts The Holy Quran and the cosmic verses in particular in addition to many other concepts and many references to the Middle East geographically, culturally, religious and literary.


This lecture aimed to demonstrate the depth of the Arabic language and its influence on the works of the greatest writers and poets in English and American literature, most notably Edgar Allan Poe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Washington Irving Irving, and Lord Byron
