The President of Al-Karkh University of Science, Dr. Thamir A. Hassan, participated in the international workshop for the classification of Arab universities in Baghdad, in the presence of representatives of 20 Arab countries and organizations.
In his address during the opening of the workshop, which will continue on the second and third day of September, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research Arabs Dr. Abdul Razzaq al-Issa said that Iraq has submitted an urgent proposal to formulate a joint project on the indicators of classification in Arab universities to bring the areas of convergence and reinforce the strengths in institutions Arab Higher Education.
He added that this workshop will provide a valuable opportunity to review, evaluate and establish a culture of quality, accreditation and promotion of the quality of education and stimulate the development of academic standards and the production of qualitative approaches to learning taking into account the international standards adopted in the classification of universities. There are unfair people who accused our universities of having non-quality, depending on their misconception that the quality of the universities is reduced by one classification or subject to rigid standards.
They also ignore that interested parties in this regard put their conditions mostly on the basis of promotional points in their interests basis. In this context, Al-Issa announced that the Union of Arab Universities has awarded 100 seats in Iraqi universities and 10 seats for each Arab country that participated in the workshop in various specialties.
The representatives of the League of Arab States, the Union of Arab Universities and the participating State also paid tribute to the initiative to host the workshop and to formulate this project, which will create a stimulating environment for Arab academic quality and accreditation.
The Minister also presented the initiative to grant 100 scholarships to the Union of Arab Universities to study the bachelor's degree for Arab students and ten for each of the participating Arab countries. This initiative represents qualitative progress in the relationship with the Union of Arab Universities.
It is worth mentioning that on the sidelines of the workshop, an Iraqi request was made to drop the financial commitments for subscriptions to universities that went through exceptional circumstances. Dr. Amr Zein, Secretary General of the Union of Arab Universities, promised to present the request to the Secretariat and the Executive Council.
